Calcined bauxite is a key raw material in refractory production. After high-temperature calcination (1100°C to 1600°C), Al₂O₃ content increases from 57%-58% in raw bauxite to 70%-88%. This makes it the structural backbone of refractory castables, firebricks, and other high-temperature materials.
How Al₂O₃ Content Affects Performance
Al₂O₃ content is the key factor that determines refractory performance. Higher Al₂O₃ means higher refractoriness, higher density, and better thermal stability. SEPPE offers calcined bauxite with Al₂O₃ content ranging from 60% to 90%, with refractoriness from 1500℃ to over 1800℃. This allows customers to select the right grade based on their specific temperature requirements.
Al₂O₃ content is important, but two other factors also matter.
1. Impurities
Fe₂O₃ and TiO₂ affect material performance. High Fe₂O₃ can lower refractoriness, while high TiO₂ affects purity. SEPPE controls Fe₂O₃ ≤ 2.0% and TiO₂ ≤ 4.0% to ensure stable quality.
2. Particle Size
Particle Size. SEPPE offers calcined bauxite in a range of particle sizes, from coarse aggregate (5-8mm) to medium particles (0-1mm,1-3mm,3-5mm) and fine powder (200 mesh). Different applications require different particle size distributions. Custom specifications are available to meet customer needs.
Using unsuitable calcined bauxite can cause problems:
1. High impurities——lower refractoriness, risk of softening at high temperatures
2. Poorly sintered clinker——continued shrinkage, leading to cracks
3. High water absorption——increased cracking risk
4. Poor particle size distribution——low density, weak strength
These issues waste material and can shorten furnace life.
Why Choose SEPPE?
With nearly 20 years of experience in refractory raw materials, SEPPE has developed mature processing technology and strict quality control systems.
