Calcined Clay is an anhydrous aluminum silicate produced by heating ultrafine natural kaolin to high temperatures in a kiln. The calcination process increases whiteness and hardness of the clay, improves electrical properties, and alters the size and shape of the goods particles. Calcination makes the powder whiter and more chemical inert.

Calcined Clay is used as a functional extender in paint, it has proven to be an excellent extender for titanium dioxide (white) pigment in paint. This materials have many other uses in ceramics. They key property it has is that it is refractory. It is useful in refractory castables and furniture, thermal insulation bodies, low expansion bodies and permeable ceramic compositions. It is widely used in refractories, technical ceramics, paints, pigments, and more.
