Product Description

Ceramic balls are made from an extremely tough zirconium oxide ceramic. They are iron-free and are therefore suitable for use with stainless steel and aluminium. The round shape of the ceramic balls means that they can be used for non-aggressive cleaning and for producing visually attractive surfaces. Its hardness and density are much higher than glass beads, resulting in a significantly longer service life. Ceramic balls are particularly suitable for cleaning, hardening, smoothing, deburring and polishing of various surfaces. It's a high-tech blasting medium that meets the very highest standards.

Physical properties

Hardness: 7 - 7.5 mohs
Grain shape: Spherical
Melting point: 2100°C
Specific gravity: 3.8 g/cm3
Bulk density: 2.0 - 2.3 g/cm³

Typical chemical analysis

ZrO2: 60-70 %

SiO2: 28-33 %
Other: <10%

Product Advantages

• Reduced beads consumption (30 - 40 times) against glass blasting media

• Lower metal surface roughness

• Less operating pressure and reduced abrasive velocity needed than glass blasting media. Thus have far less abrasive breakdown and dust generation, results in cleaner working environment and better operator visibility

• White color, high sphericity and smooth surface beads

• Strong mechanical resistance and high toughness, but gentle with equipment and tools preserving work parts

• Chemically inert, no metallic contamination for treated parts

• Low dust production

Product Application

Blast-cleaning
- Removing mould residues from castings
- Removing tempering colour

Surface finishing
- Finishing surfaces
- Creating visual effects
- Achieving a consistent surface roughness over the whole of the component being blasted

Shot peening
- Compression of the surface
(strengthening the surface and improving its mechanical properties)

Shot peen forming
- Shot peening to form or straighten workpieces
