Introduction
Brown Fused Alumina (BFA), also known as Brown Corundum, is produced by smelting a mixture of high-quality bauxite, carbon materials, and iron filings in an electric arc furnace at high temperatures. This process yields a tough, durable artificial corundum with high hardness (Mohs 9) and excellent fracture resistance.
Due to its outstanding combination of hardness and toughness, Brown Corundum is the most widely used abrasive grain in the manufacturing of abrasion wheels, including resinoid and vitrified grinding wheels, cut-off wheels, and sharpening stones. Its thermal stability also makes it a valuable raw material for refractory applications, chemical additives, precision casting shells, and anti-slip floor aggregates.
