Cenospheres are one of the most versatile industrial fillers available today. But what exactly are they, and why should you choose SEPPE cenospheres for your applications?

What Is a Cenosphere?

A cenosphere is a microscopic, hollow ceramic sphere composed primarily of silica (SiO₂) and alumina (Al₂O₃). These lightweight spheres are formed naturally during coal combustion in thermal power plants. As coal burns at extremely high temperatures, mineral impurities melt, expand, and cool into spherical particles – leaving behind a hollow interior filled with inert gas.

Typical cenospheres range from 1 to 500 microns in diameter, with colors varying from gray to nearly white. Their unique structure gives them remarkable properties:

  • Low density: Bulk Density: 0.3–0.45g/cm³ ; True Density: 0.7–0.9 g/cm³.

  • High strength: Average compressive strength >3,000 psi, Mohs hardness 6–7

  • Excellent refractoriness: Withstand temperatures up to 1600–1700°C

  • Chemical inertness: Waterproof, non-toxic, and corrosion-resistant

  • Electrical insulation: Unique property – resistance increases with rising temperature

Because of these features, fly ash cenospheres are widely used as lightweight fillers in various industries, from oil well cementing to refractory materials.

Why Choose SEPPE Cenospheres?

SEPPE cenospheres are sourced and processed to meet the demanding requirements of industrial customers worldwide. Here’s what sets us apart:

1. Consistent particle size distribution

We offer sieved grades including 30#, 40#, 60#, 100# and other mesh sizes to match your exact formulation needs.

2. High purity and refractoriness

With SiO₂ content of 50–65% and Al₂O₃ of 25–35%, our cenospheres deliver refractoriness up to 1700°C – ideal for refractory bricks, castables, and high-temperature insulation.

3. Ready-to-use fineness

No milling required. SEPPE cenospheres have a specific surface area of 300–9000 cm²/g (comparable to cement), saving you energy and processing costs.

4. Reliable packaging and global shipping

We supply cenospheres in 500–600 kg super sacks (jumbo bags). Sample orders are available.

5. Technical support and customization

Whether you need low-density cement for oil drilling, anti-sag coatings, or lightweight automotive composites, our team can help you select the right grade.
