Calcined Bauxite for High Friction Surface and Anti-Skid Pavements

Calcined bauxite is one of the most widely used aggregates in High Friction Surfacing (HFS) and anti-skid road applications. Subjected to high-temperature calcination, this material achieves extraordinary hardness, exceptional abrasion resistance, and outstanding anti-polishing capability, ensuring stable roadway friction under heavy traffic loads.

High Friction Surface Applications

High Friction Surfacing (HFS) is specifically engineered for critical roadway segments where vehicle skid risk is elevated. Calcined bauxite aggregate is broadcast onto a polymer binder (such as epoxy or polyurethane) to create a high-grip surface texture.

Key deployment zones include sharp horizontal curves, intersection approaches, bridge decks, steep grades, pedestrian crossings, and designated accident-prone hotspots.

Why Calcined Bauxite Outperforms Conventional Aggregates

Through calcination at temperatures exceeding 1,500°C, high-grade raw bauxite converts into dense corundum and mullite phases. This phase transformation delivers significantly higher skid resistance and durability compared to standard road aggregates.

Aggregate Size Selection Guide

Selecting the appropriate grain size ensures optimal surface texture, tire interlocking, and resin drainage according to traffic volume.

Fine Aggregate

Ideal for pedestrian zones, cycle lanes, bus stops, decorative anti-skid surfaces, and light-duty industrial floors.

Standard HFS Grade

Recommended for expressways, heavy-traffic highways, bridge approaches, and high-speed braking sections.

Colored Anti-Skid Pavement Applications

The natural light-buff color of calcined bauxite serves as an optimal substrate for pigmented resin systems. Unlike darker natural aggregates, its light base allows pigments to maintain vibrant, color-fast visibility over years of UV exposure and traffic wear.

Colored HFS systems are extensively applied in urban greenways, bus rapid transit (BRT) lanes, school zones, and tunnel entrance warnings to combine enhanced visual guidance with maximum skid resistance.

SEPPE Production & Quality Control

SEPPE calcined bauxite is manufactured from high-purity bauxite ore using precision-controlled rotary kilns and shaft kilns. Strict screening processes ensure narrow particle size distribution, zero contamination, and low moisture absorption.
