Calcined bauxite powder is a non-metallic industrial mineral produced from bauxite ore. It consists of finely ground, dense mineral particles and offers good resistance to high temperatures. In industry, it is primarily used in the production of high-alumina refractories and other formulations that require reliable thermal performance.

Why Use Calcined Bauxite Powder?

In refractories, precision casting and wear-resistant coatings, fine calcined bauxite powder—such as 200 mesh or 325 mesh—can fill spaces that would otherwise remain between coarser aggregate particles. When the particle-size distribution is properly designed, this tighter packing can reduce apparent porosity and increase the density of the finished material.

Finer particles also provide a larger surface area for high-temperature reactions. This can promote more efficient sintering, helping the formulation react within a shorter firing cycle or at a lower temperature, depending on the complete formulation and production process. The result may be lower energy consumption and improved production efficiency.

Calcined bauxite powder is also used in foundry and coating formulations. Compared with coarse particles that settle quickly in liquid systems, a well-dispersed fine powder can form a more uniform slurry, reduce caking and separation during storage, and improve leveling during spraying or brushing. Final suspension stability also depends on the binder, dispersant, solids content and overall formulation.

How to Store Calcined Bauxite Powder

1.Storage conditions

Store calcined bauxite powder in a cool, dry and well-ventilated environment. A storage temperature of 15–25°C and relative humidity below 60% are recommended where practicable. In humid conditions, suitable dehumidification can help prevent moisture absorption and caking during long-term storage.

2.Storage packaging

Use clean, dry and securely sealed packaging with suitable strength and moisture resistance. Plastic-lined bags, lined paper sacks and properly sealed bulk bags are commonly used. Packaging should be free from debris, residues and other sources of contamination before filling.

3.Storage location

Keep the product in a dry, ventilated and contamination-free area, protected from rain, ground moisture and direct sunlight. Packages should remain sealed and should be stored away from water, chemicals and other materials that could affect product quality.
