MATERIAL PERFORMANCE
A choice of grades lets manufacturers balance alumina content, formulation requirements and material cost.
A dense mineral structure contributes to the strength and wear resistance of bricks and castables.
Calcination develops the mineral structure required for refractory use. Service performance depends on the complete formulation.
SELECT YOUR MATERIAL
Compare alumina grades, then specify the chemistry, grain density and size fractions required by your formulation.

WHERE IT IS USED
Calcined bauxite is used as a high-alumina aggregate and fine fraction in refractory bricks, castables, precast shapes and furnace lining systems.

01 / CASTABLES
Calcined bauxite aggregate and fines for dense castables, repair mixes and monolithic refractory formulations.
![]()
02 / STEELMAKING
High-alumina refractory formulations used in selected steelmaking equipment and lining systems.

03 / SHAPED REFRACTORIES
Graded aggregate and fine fractions for high-alumina bricks and other shaped refractory products.

04 / FURNACE LININGS
Refractory formulations for selected steelmaking, cement and industrial heating applications.
PARTICLE SIZE OPTIONS
Order fractions individually or discuss a custom grading. Include the required sieve distribution, powder fineness and proportions when requesting a quotation.
MATERIAL ORIGIN
Selected bauxite is calcined, crushed and graded for refractory use. Rotary and shaft kilns are alternative production routes; the appropriate route depends on the ordered grade and material requirements.

PACKING & SUPPLY
50 kg bags and 1.00, 1.25 or 1.35 MT jumbo bags. Custom printing and private labelling are available; confirm shipment weight for the selected packing and destination.

Start with your formulation’s alumina and impurity limits, grain bulk density, particle sizes and service conditions. Share these requirements so SEPPE can propose an appropriate grade.
Specify the chemistry, density and grading required by your formulation, together with any kiln-route requirement. SEPPE can recommend a production route for the selected grade and end use.
Standard fractions include 0–1 mm, 1–3 mm, 3–5 mm and 5–8 mm. Custom grading and fine powders are available on request; include your required sieve distribution or powder fineness.
Samples can be requested for brick, castable or precast formulation trials. Include your preferred grade and size fractions.

Send your Al₂O₃ target, impurity limits, grain density, particle sizes, end use and order quantity.
Request Samples & PricingQUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM
SEPPE’s seven-stage quality control workflow connects the ordered grade with production checks, laboratory results and shipment records. Acceptance limits follow the agreed specification for each grade.
Assess the source, alumina and impurity profile against the intended calcined grade. Keep raw-ore composition distinct from the finished-product specification.
Select suitable lots and blend where required by the production plan to manage variation in feed chemistry.
Monitor firing conditions for the selected rotary- or shaft-kiln route. Operating settings follow the ore characteristics and target grade.
Screen the crushed material into ordered fractions and use separation and inspection to limit unwanted metallic contamination.
Review Al₂O₃, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, TiO₂ and relevant minor oxides against the agreed grade limits. Link results to the identified sample and lot.
Check density and particle-size distribution using an appropriate method. Include moisture, absorption or other properties where required by the order and test programme.
Review the lot identity, inspection records, grade, quantity, labels and packaging against the order before dispatch.
LABORATORY & METHODS
Chemical analysis, density and grading results are reviewed with the sample identity, method and grade limits. Use the same agreed method when comparing supplier and receiving-laboratory results.

These links describe test methods; the applicable report states which method was used. The method and specimen size must suit the supplied material.
Bricks, castables and precast shapes require evaluation of the finished formulation. The following references apply to those products or prepared specimens; they do not establish the performance of loose bauxite aggregate.
ISO 5017:2025 for dense shaped products; ASTM C20 for burned brick and shapes.
ASTM C133 for cold strength; ISO 1927-6:2012 for physical properties of monolithic refractory specimens.
